The American Outdoorsman Mens Hiking Shorts with Built-in Belt Ideal for All Outdoor Activity

I was looking for some nice, lightweight casual summer shorts to replace the grey one I’ve been wearing for a few years (too many stains). Although these shorts don’t have quite as many pockets as my older shorts (which were cargo shorts with about 8 pockets), I prefer the fit and look of these, because they are less baggy and don’t go all the way down to my knees (I’m 5′-5″ tall).These shorts arrived just in time for some warm weather making its way through my area, so this review is based on a couple of days of wearing these shorts so far. As I said, the look and fit are really good for me. They are thinner (not see-through as far as I can tell) and lightweight, especially compared to the cargo shorts they are replacing, so they also feel more comfortable when outdoors on warm days.I like that there are also pockets where I can keep things secure: the 2 back pockets with velcro and the zippered front/side pocket. The back pockets have a flap over them to give a more streamlined (for lack of a better term) look to them. However, I think I would have preferred for these to be just zippered pockets compared to having velcro. The reason is that with that flap, it takes a bit more work than usual to use a couple of fingers to lift up that flap while I use other fingers to open the velcro; either that, or I have to use two hands. After two wears, I haven’t quite got the hang of it yet and just think that zippers would have kept this simpler. I would say this is probably my biggest complaint, which I would still consider minor compared to the other things I like about these shorts.The only other complaints I have are even more minor:- The included belt just seems too small and cheap for $40 shorts. I get that they may be trying to keep it lightweight and more outdoorsy, but why are they half the height of the belt loops and have a color scheme on the plastic buckle that makes it more noticeable?- A size chart/guide would be nice to have in the product info. I normally wear medium-ish shorts, so I chose those and was glad they fit well on my 33-inch waist, but some people tend to be more in between sizes, so a size chart/guide would help them to order shorts with the proper fit and the vendor to avoid unnecessary returns. (Seems like a win-win for providing something so simple.)
